HMS King Edward VII RN Battleship 1906 1/1800 Scale

A scarce waterline model in 1/1800 scale in metal, produced in the early 1900s by BMC (Brighton Model Company)  The model is in original unpainted finish, a few age stains on hull. Missing masts and gun barrels are missing but possibly like that from new.  A rare survivor from the beginning of waterline ships at a sensible price.  Approx.82mm long.

BMC began production around 1903 and a couple of years later started supplyying models for the then new Naval wargames developed by Fred T Jane (of Janes Fighting Ships fame) While rudimentary by later standards, the B.M.C. production of over 101 different castings was the first scale metal ship model fleet ever produced and established the precedent for all subsequent scale metal waterline recognition ship models. In addition to the ship models, B.M.C. produced a fort with movable guns, four lighthouses and a game featuring a large fold-out map of the Dardanelles channel showing forts and minefields. The game was supplied with fifteen metal ship models including two mine sweepers and two submarines.  They produced ship models in both 1/1200 and 1/1800 scale.

The company was acquired by the famous maker Bassett Lowke and sold under their name in boxed sets in the time prior and just after WW1.
